Gaza-Beersheba
Gaza Beersheba refers to the second battle of Gaza in April 1917 where Turkish positions were routed along the Gaza- Beersheba road were routed. Gaza being a port on the Mediterranean coast, and Beersheba a town some 30 kilometers inland toward the Dead Sea.
The exact part played by the Camel Brigade in the action is still being researched.
The 15th Light Horse was not formed until July 1918 when the Imperial Camel Brigade was disbanded. The Australians who had served in it were formed into the 14th and 15th Light Horse AIF (Australian Imperial Force). Honours for battles fought by the Camel Brigade were attributed to these Regiments.
